Måløy

Where the fjord meets the sea!

At the end of the Nordfjord, right off the coast of Vestland, is the fishing town of Måløy.

The town is located partly on the island of Vågsøy, partly on the mainland and is connected by the Måløy bridge. The city centre is located on Vågsøy island with its back to the sea and is a safe haven for boat traffic when the stormy weather prevents the crossing of the Stadhavet(Stad Sea).

Today, the city is under the administration of Kinn municipality together with Florø.

The Måløy region comprises in large part of what previously was Vågsøy municipality. A region, also close to major touristic areas such as Stryn and Geiranger.

Important History

Måløy is located on the coast of Norway and was once a trading and hospitality spot. Today, the town grew into a leading fishing centre.

During World War II, the German occupation forces built several fortifications in Måløy. The Måløy raid (Operation Archery) was aimed at targets in Måløy and Vågsøy which led to major destructions.

Today, Måløy has a strong business community and is perhaps best known for its maritime and marine activities. The place has long proud traditions in fishing, farming and shipyards.
